The big Thanksgiving feast is done and we are now quickly approaching Christmas. I am certain you are plenty busy but what a great time to get down to the nitty gritty in your kitchen. Clean it, organize it, make it sparkle for your house guests! We recently did this here at Prairieside Suites and it looks wonderful, so fresh and almost new even!
Where to start? Figuring this out is often the most daunting part of the task. We find it works best if you clean from the top to the bottom. So, for those of you who have cabinets that don’t go to the ceiling, start on top of the cabinets. This is a place that is not seen and therefore is often forgotten about but it will, no doubt, need to be rid of the dust and cobwebs! A good vacuuming with the wand of your vac is just what it needs! If you have greenery on top of your cabinets, swish it in warm sudsy water and let it drip dry while you continue to work your way down through the cabinets, cleaning and organizing as you go. When you get to the drawers, take out the vacuum again and suck up the crumbs laying in the corners and crevices! At the same time vacuum the drawer at the bottom of your stove if you have one.
Then, keep going onto the lower cabinets. Don’t forget to wipe down the fronts and vacuum out the bottoms- you’ll be amazed at the crumbs that collect there (and even pet hair if you own a pet). Under the kitchen sink, soap and cleaning supplies inevitably get spilled so empty the cupboard and give it a good wipe down then neatly put everything back. Two other places that collect crumbs are the toaster and toaster oven. Make sure to dump the crumb tray in the toaster and use the crevice tool on your vacuum to clean out the bottom of your toaster oven.
Then, make sure you go around the kitchen cleaning the cabinet toe-kick area and adjoining baseboards- vacuuming first and then wipe them down. One place that is often missed is the grill on the front of the fridge- prepare yourself for the mess you’ll find- then gently pull it off and put it in a sink or tub of warm, soapy water and give it a good washing. Use a yard stick to roll all dust towards the front so you can suck it into the vacuum, your refrigerator will love this, it’ll work more efficiently and last longer plus no more dust bunnies! It’s time to give the refrigerator a good cleaning inside and out. A magic eraser works great on the handles and for cleaning dirty marks off the paddles on the ice and water dispensers.
What are you waiting for? Get busy! It’s a giant task indeed but if you follow these simple steps, you’ll have a sparkling kitchen in to time! And when you are done and need a break, you can come visit Prairieside Suites to relax and rejuvenate (that is, of course, as long as you can stand to part with your new, sparkling kitchen!) We have a special for you…stay two nights and get a Free 1/2 hour massage, Free box of gift wrapped chocolates and a Free Firelight Romance Candle Package!
While you are here, you can knock out the rest of your Christmas shopping at Rivertown Crossings Mall, just down the road. There are plenty of restaurants nearby also, as well as a movie theater. I saw the movie…”Red” with Bruce Willis and loved it! Grand Rapids also has plenty of seasonal venues, including the favorite play Peter Pan. Our hockey team, the Grand Rapids Griffins, are busy cutting up the ice and they’re fun to watch.
